Community Withdrawal Management Services

Type of Service

Addictions Withdrawal Management

Program Description

Addiction Service for York Region's trained counsellors can assess, refer and/or provide non-medical, non-residential support to individuals of our community who voluntarily request help in stopping alcohol and other drugs. Care may be provided with the aid of medication as prescribed by the client's physician. In some cases, if the right support is in place, it may be possible to provide support in a person's home. Clinicians in this program will complete an assessment for the type of withdrawal anticipated; a plan to ensure that people safely manage their withdrawal followed by supportive counselling after the withdrawal is complete to ensure a person is stable before proceeding with treatment. Alternative options such as referrals are provided for people who do not meet the criteria for a Level 1-2 withdrawal, or who may require a supportive environment such as residential withdrawal management; or, medical withdrawal management (Level 3). We work in partnership with the Royal Victoria Regional Health Center's Addiction Service Residential Withdrawal Management Service, Barrie, Ontario who is able to provide back up support for clients 24/7.
