Community Treatment Alcohol and Drug Adult Program

Type of Service

Addictions Treatment - Substance Abuse

Program Description

We provide: assessment and referral, counselling and treatment, relapse prevention support, harm reduction strategies, support for family members and withdrawal management support. We offer a skills development group for people in early recovery, called GSC Pathways. Structured Relapse Prevention is offered on site, in jails, at Morningstar Centre, etc. Topics of this group deal with relapse prevention and are decided "in session" by the group itself. SRP may be followed by a Recovery Enhancement Group. The Parent Support Group assists parents dealing with adult children with addiction issues. Group sessions are usually one to two hours. Other special groups may be developed, based on the needs of the community. The program uses motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness meditation, etc. as treatment techniques. Social workers are part of the hospital integrated social work service and will accept referrals during daily rounds.
