St. Mary's Counselling Service (SMCS)

St. Mary’s Counselling Service (SMCS) is a community based program of St. Mary's General Hospital that provides assessment, referral, counselling and support for individuals concerned about tobacco, alcohol, or drug use, and gambling/gaming or problematic internet use. Brief individual counselling and a variety of group counselling programs are available. Specialized assessment and counselling services are available for youth, transitioning to young adults, and for seniors/older adults. Counselling services are complex capable and based on a cognitive-behavioural, strength based and client focused approach. Treatment is matched in accordance with the stages of change model. Consultations and group programs are provided for family members or friends concerned about someone else’s substance use or gambling/gaming or problematic internet use behaviours.
